Wilmington Donut DAZE is a two-day festival celebrating the deliciousness, and fun, of the DONUT! Who doesn’t love donuts?!? We are stretching our stride with some extra sprinkles of FUN for year FIVE! Everyone get ready to: EXERCISE your APPETITE!
To highlight these scrumptious little gifts, NEW THIS YEAR, we have planned a Donut Dash 5K on National Donut Day, Friday June 5th. Participants are invited to walk or run a scenic route in beautiful New Wilmington, and of course help themselves to as many donuts as they need to get across that finish line. As we build to more of a festival environment, we will be welcoming local vendors and businesses to offer extras for our guests to partake in. We will also be hosts a kids fun run! An after party will be planned in partnership with Hop Asylum Brewing in New Wilmington.
The Tour de Donut is to follow on Saturday June 6th. A great number of local and visiting cyclists already take advantage of the many beautiful country roads in the Wilmington area. We are inviting those, and many more, to partake in an organized ride – with one hitch – DONUTS! There will be three different route options available for every level of cyclist – 10 mile, 30 mile, and 60 mile. Donut eating is totally voluntary, but riders will not get their donut medal of completion without eating a total one full dozen donuts during the course of their ride. Of course we will also be offering water, Gatorade, and fruit to help wash the donuts down at each stop.
Registration cost for both events is $20 each for PRE-registration; $25 each thereafter – day of included. An extra-special limited-edition t-shirt will be gifted to each event participant. However, if you register for BOTH events you will also get a highly sought after TDD trucker hat!
To guarantee these goodies, runners and cyclists should PRE-register by May 16 at: www.nwtourdedonut.com
The purpose of this weekend event is to celebrate wonderful assets we have here in our own region – delicious local donuts, beautiful cycling routes, and fun people! But also, to invite those from outside our immediate community to celebrate with us as well!
Can’t wait to see you there! With sugar stuck on your fingers of course 🙂
