This Saturday, June 17 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., the Fresh Marketplace will feature a variety of special features, including the opportunity to compost, special music, The Faces of the Fresh Marketplace mural kids activity, and vendors galore!
COMPOSTING: Make a contribution to the local fertility cycle by dumping your food scraps in the BIG YELLOW ORGANIC WASTE BIN. Composting provides a way to not only reduce the amount of waste that goes into a landfill, but it converts that waste into a product that is useful for gardening, landscaping or household plants. It returns valuable nutrients to the soil to help maintain soil quality and fertility. Food waste that is compostable includes: fruit & vegetables scraps, coffee grounds, tea bags, egg shells.

SPECIAL MUSIC: Between 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., Grant Street Exit will perform LIVE! Grant Street Exit started in Sharon in the early 80s and has been a local favorite playing classic, folk rock and whatever seems to trip the trigger, “Don’t miss the Exit” The band members include locals Terry Dach, lead singer and guitarist, Hermitage; Charlie Fischer, keyboardist, Sharpsville; and Mick Hubicz, guitar and vocals, Orangeville.
KIDS ACTIVITY: From 10 – 11 a.m., children of all ages will have the opportunity to participate in “The Faces of the Fresh Marketplace Mural” painting project, creating a special work of art that will be displayed in the Market all season. From 11 a.m. – 12 p.m., kids will create crazy faces on the mural while participating in the collage workshop. Children can attend one or both workshops. The children’s activity sponsor, Jill Postema, has worked as a superhero, actor, artist and teacher. She is currently employed by the Wilmington Area School District as a K-6 STEAM teacher. (Note: kids should wear clothes that can get messy!)
Located at 129 S. Chestnut St., New Wilmington, behind Mugsies Coffee House, the Fresh Marketplace at New Wilmington Center is open each Saturday from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. through August 26.
