LIVE New Wilmington will host its inaugural Tour de Donut Bike Tour starting at 8 a.m., Saturday, June 4 at Westminster College’s Memorial Field House. Pre-registration is $20 and guarantees a limited edition t-shirt.
Cyclists of all levels may choose from 10-, 30-, or 60-mile tours. Water, Gatorade, and fruit will be provided before, during, and after the tour.
“New Wilmington is recognized by many local and visiting cyclists because of the scenic routes, but there’s one hitch during this ride – donuts,” said Tyler Cathcart, event organizer.
The cycling tour is in conjunction with Donut DAZE in New Wilmington, joining the rest of America in a national celebration of National Donut Day, Friday, June 3 from 5 – 8 p.m., hosting a Donut Crawl, donut games, and even donut themed music on Market Street in New Wilmington.
During the bike tour a voluntary donut-eating challenge will enhance the overall experience, offering donuts at various points along each route. A donut medal will be offered to the riders who eat six donuts throughout the 10 mile ride, and a full dozen during the 30 and 60 mile routes.
“The purpose of this event is to celebrate wonderful assets we have here in our own region – delicious donuts, beautiful cycling routes, and fun people,” said Wendy Farmerie, owner of the Silk Road Market in New Wilmington.
“This event brings together so many facets of our community,” said Cathcart, event coordinator. “What we’re most excited about is watching people enjoy a unique event in a beautiful, pristine environment we call home.”
Cyclists may pre-register by May 15 at www.nwtourdedonut.com. Registration after May 15 will continue to be available until event day, although t-shirts and donuts are offered at a first come first serve basis. Email email@example.com with questions.
