Westminster College to Host Two Scottish Fiddle Concerts, July 11 & 15

19237867606_20701b37a7_zAs part of the Strathgheny School of Scottish Fiddling camp, Westminster College will host two Scottish fiddlers’ concerts. The concerts are free and open to the public. Those attending should bring a lawn chair.

At 8 p.m. Monday, July 11 in Anderson Amphitheater, the concert will feature professional fiddlers Dr. Melinda Crawford Perttu, assistant professor of music at Westminster, and David Gardner. They will be accompanied on Scottish piano by Dr. Daniel Perttu, associate professor and chair of Westminster’s School of Music.

At 8 p.m. Friday, July 15, on Weisel Senior Terrace outside of Old Main, student camp participants will perform their weeklong accumulation of music. The concert is part of the Summerfest celebration of the arts festival from 3 – 9 p.m. in New Wilmington.

Crawford Perttu is a sanctioned Scottish F.I.R.E. judge and U.S. National Scottish Fiddling Champion. She earned an undergraduate degree from Duquesne University and master’s degree and Ph.D. from The Ohio State University.

Gardner, also a sanctioned Scottish F.I.R.E. judge, is a professional fiddler for the Colonial Williamsburg Foundation and a Fulbright teacher exchange scholar in music.
