Dr. David Swerdlow, professor of English and public relations, will present his novel manuscript, “Rosa’s Plot,” during the Bleasby Colloquium at 7 p.m., Thursday, February 18 in Mueller Theater, McKelvey Campus Center.
Rosa’s Plot tells the story of Rosa and Henry, who fall for each other while burying Rosa’s chihuahua-terrier mix in the backyard of her suburban Maryland home. Rosa, a 62-year old Peruvian widow, can’t decide where to die; Henry, a 55-year old American landscaper, can’t decide where to live. Rosa and Henry’s adventure through cemeteries and historic landmarks in Peru and the U.S. begins in earnest soon after Clay Weaver, the bookish 16-year old son of an anti-fracking couple charged with eco-terrorism, joins their company.
In addition to reading excerpts from the novel, Swerdlow will share his experience about the process of writing a novel.
